Day 21

29 01 2009

Here we go….the move begins.

I’m off work tomorrow so I can finish up packing and if I’m lucky start and finish painting the kitchen/hallway.  My cousin is supposed to help so if she comes through we should be able to knock it out.  I have a ton of packing to do though so I need to concentrate on that tonight and tomorrow morning.

Saturday the weather is supposed to be beautiful – 65 degrees.  It can’t get any better than that for moving day!!  I just hope the move goes as beautifully as the weather!

I hope to get lots of before and after pictures.  But no promises….I do afterall have a ton of shit to do over the next 3 days.  It’s all very exciting even if I’m stressing the f##k out.

28 01 2009

I’ve recently had a few people ask what I wanted in the way of a house warming gift.  I don’t really need anything but of course I have a want list.  To make it easy I’ve put a registry list up at  You can view it here

I also have one up at that I’m currently working on updating.  I hope this helps those of you who’ve asked.  Thanks so much!

No new pictures.  I forgot again to take some yesterday while I was over there last night.  I had to finish up the one wall around the window and I was in a big hurry.  Daws room looks good minus the last wall we did when he decided to do all walls the same green.  The trim is a different shade and we are out of paint.  Ugh!

Day 15-17

26 01 2009

Another long weekend of work.  I worked harder this weekend than any other before.  I’m exhausted!!  I took some time off Friday in the hopes I would get enough done not to have to do so much work Sat/Sun.  That didn’t happen.

Friday I worked on the wall around the front door.  I had to prime and paint it.  As the primer dried I started the living room molding.  I was there until about 6.  I’m not sure why I didn’t get more done.

Saturday I was up early.  We had to take my broken dryer to a place to get fixed so I borrowed my Dads rendevous.  We then packed it up with lots of stuff and headed over to Greenwood.  I started on the rest of the moldings while Steve worked on the molding he’d taken down from the dining area.  He had the easiest job I think.  Not only did he have the easiest job of painting moldings after than he did no more painting.  I made a deal if he cleaned the entire bathroom I’d do the rest of the trim in the bathroom and start on the white of the bedroom.  He’d help me with it when he was done.

And as it goes with men. You make a deal and you do your part and more – they don’t finish there part.  I painted all the trim in the bathroom, started the white in the bedroom (which included molding, doors, and two shelf units) and he started the bathroom.  He decided at 8:40 he wanted to buy a new toilet seat instead of cleaning it.  Since he left so late he missed Home Depot and had to go to Walmart – much farther away.  He was done until almost 10.  Mean while I had finished the entire bedroom myself.

We also had the new couch delievered and set up the living room (mostly).  Here are some of the photos I took.  I think it looks like it could be in a magazine – at least that’s what Daws said when he first saw the 2nd picture – and I agree.

I don’t  have pictures of the bedroom.  I was way too tired Sat. night to take any.  I didn’t make it home until 11.  I’ll take some this week.

Sunday I did manage to get some pictures but only of Daws painting.  Sunday we painted his room.  I was going to leave it up to him and see how it turned out but realized soon he wasn’t going to be too good at the trim.  While Daws did an excellent job at most of the painting I still managed to do about 1/3 of his room with him.  The poor baby was exhausted by the time we finished.  We started at 1:30 and weren’t done and cleaning up until 5:30.  He did take a couple short breaks and one longer break while I shampooed carpets.  I don’t have full after pictures but I do have during pictures of Daws painting and a video. I’ve posted the video on my facebook page if you’d like to see it.

Day 14

23 01 2009

I bought a new couch (sectional) and ottoman.  I’ve been shopping online to narrow down exactly what I wanted.  And yesterday I finally decided to go with my one of my top 3 choices.

It’s being delivered tomorrow. I forgot to measure the living room space this morning when I went over there to do more painting.  I’m leaving work to head back out there to do some cleaning and more painting to hopefully be ready for it to be delivered.  I’m so excited.  I haven’t had any new furniture in years – minus the new entertainment center for the tv.  I’ve had the same wooden futon couch for over 5 years.  It was time for some grown up furniture.  I went with something without leather so it’ll be easier to clean.  I really wanted recliners but this couch is so comfortable and the perfect size (or so I hope).

This picture gives you the best shot of the true color – light tan…

I looks way grey in this picture but it’s not – dumb flash…

Day 13

21 01 2009

While I didn’t accomplish much on Tuesday, Steve and my Dad sure did.  Like I mentioned before they changed around the cabinet/fridge (which wasn’t an easy task), took down the old like and put up my new light.  They also fixed the issues I had in the tub/shower.

And while it was so nice to have all those things done – it would have been nicer if they’d cleaned up after themselves.  I knew my Dad was like this – he is great about doing jobs for me but never cleans up.  Steve was there last night so I made him clean up some of his mess.  lol  Steve also weather stripped the doors that badly needed it and took down all the vents for me to clean (and boy were they gross).

Which was about the only thing I did yesterday – clean.  Clean up their mess, clean up my mess, clean the vents and take out the trash.  I did take get the new curtains up in the kitchen too but that was way easy.

And here are the new windows…

Please excuse the mess.  I’m not sure if I’ll be keeping that shelf there or not.  While it’s convenient it’s not at all attractive.

Day 12 continued

20 01 2009

The kitchen lighting in the house was this..

I was going to try to go the cheapest way and paint the ugly fixture with some texture spray paint.  The ballast needed replaced as well.  I bought one last night.  It wasn’t the right one.  So now we are going with what I originally wanted to do and we are replacing the entire fixture with this..

And I picked it out online while Steve and my Dad was at the store.   I just hope it looks as good on my ceiling as it does online.

Here it is in the kitchen now…

Day 12

20 01 2009

Day 12 and I’m crossing my fingers I don’t have a major problem on my hands.  I left work for a bit to meet my Dad and St to see figure out what we were going to do about the fridge/cabinet issue.  All went well and they moved them around and it actually looks better than the previous set up.  I forgot to take a picture so I’ll have to post one later.  I didn’t think of taking a picture since I was overly stressed about the heating issue.  We were there an hour and we realized while the heat seemed to be running it wasn’t warming up.  Sure enough warm air was not coming from the vents.  Urgh! Wtf??

I’m crossing my fingers it’s a simple thermostat issue because we (actually I did) figured out that if you didn’t push the switch over hard enough the green light and the fan wasn’t coming on.  Please, please, please be a minor issue like a thermostat.  We left since Steve had a meeting and I had to get back to work.  I’m praying for a phone call telling me “it’s nice and warm in here now – no worries”.

In staying with the positive theme – I finally solved the kitchen window dilema.  Last night I was looking at curtains for Daws’ room (found them on clearance for 11 bucks – woohoo) and I found some curtains I thought could possibly work for the kitchen window.  Which would save me a ton in costs.  I’d thought I’d have to get a custom blind which would be more than I wanted to shell out.  At first I didn’t think the curtains would work – I’d bought two sizes – one was too short, the other too long.  But then I had the bright idea of using a tension rod inside the window and when hanging it that way instead of on top of the molding it was a perfect fit.  Plus the bonus of not covering up the moldings around the window- which is my preference – makes me very happy.  It looks pretty good.  I didn’t get a picture (heat issue). Also, I only bought 2 curtains and needed three plus 2 more tension rods so it wasn’t all up looking perfect just yet.  But something I thought would cost 150 or more ended up costing me about $40.  Nice!

Here’s a picture of the curtains from the package…

Yes, more red. It’s a theme in my house. The wall color in the kitchen will be the same color as one of the stripes in the curtains and the red will coordinate well with the other red in the livingroom.

Steve just called – the heat is working – thank god!! And he also send me some pictures.

Cabinet and fridge before and after…

Not only is this layout more manageable it looks much better I think.

Kitchen window…

I can’t wait to get out there tonight and get them all put up…mostly so we’ll have privacy finall… but also because it’ll look so much better.  Not great just yet – not with the purple walls but that will change soon enough.
